Foxconn, the iPhone maker, presents a trio of electric vehicles
Apple has mentioned several times that it wants to start marketing vehicles. However, recent developments have come from one of its subcontractors, the company that manufactures the iPhone in particular, the Taiwanese company Foxconn. The latter has just presented a trio of electric vehicles at a techno event.
During its presentation, the cellular equipment manufacturer clearly indicated that it wanted to think outside the box and start marketing electric vehicles. He mentioned during the event that he wanted to introduce his models on the local market, but also internationally. His goal is to demonstrate his production capacity and to be part of the new generation of car manufacturers.
Interestingly, it’s not just the prototypes that caught the attention but their names: Model C, Model E and Model T. And no, you might think that this nomenclature refers to Tesla’s vehicles, but that’s not the case. Instead, it’s a name used by Ford in its early days. The Model T needs no introduction, just like the Model C, while the Model E, even though the manufacturer has never marketed a vehicle with this name, has always protected it, believing that it would sound too similar to the Model T.
So three vehicles were unveiled at the Hon Hai Tech Day 2021. The Model C is a compact SUV with a focus on style, space, power and fuel economy. It measures 4.64 meters in length and has a wheelbase of 2.86 meters. Available in a 5+2 (7-seat) configuration, it is a spacious and luxurious urban vehicle. According to the manufacturer, it has a range of 700 kilometers and can go from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 3.8 seconds.
The Model E is a sedan whose design was entrusted to the famous firm Pininfarina. It’s the company’s flagship model, and it serves to demonstrate the brand’s expertise. Not only does it stand out for its degree of luxury, but it is also powerful with a total output of 750 horsepower.
Finally, the Model T is a city bus; why not, Tesla does have its semi!
The future of the automobile does not belong only to the big manufacturers. The arrival of electric vehicles will allow the emergence of a multitude of small brands; it remains to be seen who will succeed in breaking into the market.
