GMC Canyon: a new AT4X version for the next generation

the GMC Canyon, this intermediate pickup truck, a close cousin of the Chevrolet Colorado, has been on our roads for nearly 20 years. In fact, the year 2023 will mark the 20th anniversary of the model in America, while the first units were delivered in 2003. Only one other generation has seen the light of day since, the current one, but GMC today partially lifts the curtains on the next generation. We will notably find in this one a new variation, AT4Xwhich promises even more off-road performance than the already capable AT4 version.

AT4, this GMC sub-brand, is the off-road version of the manufacturer. The current generation GMC Canyon is available in this AT4 version, which allows it to be equipped with 31-inch off-road type tires, reinforced bumpers or an optional one-inch mounted suspension. .

We can expect the next generation AT4X version of the Canyon to include these elements, in addition to offering more. The image unveiled by GMC already shows us the presence of off-road tires, 17-inch rims and rocker panel protectors.

In comparison, the GMC Sierra, which is already available in the AT4X version, offers similar functions, in addition to being equipped with a Multimatic suspension system as found on the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2. As a bonus, it also offers lockable front and rear differentials.

Remember that the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 is an intermediate pickup capable of good off-road performance. Its 3.6-liter 6-cylinder engine develops 308 horsepower and 275 pounds of torque and is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. It is equipped with a Multimatic type suspension, in addition to being equipped with off-road tires and underbody protection plate.

We will thus probably find similar elements in the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X, especially considering the fact that we already find very similar features on the other GMC model that wears the AT4X badge, the Sierra . On the other hand, GMC does not reveal any more information for the moment, neither on the Canyon 2023, nor on its AT4X version. We know that the midsize pickup will be unveiled in the summer of 2022, but nothing more.
