After the GMC Hummer and the Chevrolet Silverado EV, it’s now the GMC Sierra’s turn to undergo full electrification. Unsurprisingly, the full-size pickup picks up elements already announced on the latter.
The unveiling orchestrated last week, however, only concerns the American livery of the pickup truck, General Motors Canada specifying in passing that certain technical specifications could differ once the border is crossed.

In Canada, the Sierra EV will be available from the introduction of the 2025 model year. We will not be entitled to the Edition 1 which will be launched in early 2024. With its 754 hp and 785 lb-ft of torque as well as an estimated range of 640 km, it literally bridges the gap between the Silverado EV and the GMC Hummer in terms of performance. It would not be surprising if this group were offered in Canada in a different packaging.
Like the Silverado EV, the Sierra EV will be compatible with charging stations up to 350 kW thanks to its 800 V electrical architecture. GM estimates that using these stations will save the pickup 160 km autonomy in barely 10 minutes. The towing capacity is fixed at 4309 kg, which would place it in the middle of the pack within the gasoline Sierra range.

Moreover, beyond the design which differs to support its belonging to the GMC family, the Sierra advances with a more luxurious proposition. It will also be entitled to the Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system and will be able to do the famous “CrabWalk”, allowing all four wheels to be turned in the same direction to move the vehicle laterally. However, we will still have to wait to analyze the Canadian variant of the model.
