GMC | The Acadia is gaining volume

Following a major trend in the industry – no pun intended – the GMC Acadia sees its footprint significantly expand for 2024, leaving behind the slimming treatment that defined its predecessor.

This third generation of the mid-size SUV therefore sees its wheelbase increase by 213 mm and its total length by 269 mm, rather eloquent figures which bring it closer to its big brother on a ladder chassis, the GMC Yukon. All this to increase the space left to the third row of seats by 36% as well as the cargo volume by 80%, advantages sought after in a family vehicle.

The new engine is mated to a standard eight-speed transmission as well as all-wheel drive. Its towing capacity also increases to 2267 kg (5000 lb).

This gain in dimensions is accompanied by an entirely new body, but which applies a rather similar stylistic approach. The angles are still there, as is this horizontal grille which defines its frontal presentation. The headlights add refinement with C-shaped diodes.

Gone is also the reign of the optional 3.6L V6 which was complementary to a 2L turbocharged four-cylinder. GMC adds under its hood a new 2.5L turbocharged four-cylinder with 328 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque as the only engine offered, a gain of 18 hp and 57 lb-ft compared to the six-cylinder. This new mill is coupled to a standard eight-speed transmission as well as all-wheel drive. Its towing capacity also increases to 2267 kg (5000 lb).

The interior, also completely redesigned, features a large 15-inch vertical screen as standard coupled with digital instrumentation broadcast by an 11-inch screen. The Acadia can also be equipped with the Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system.

Production of the 2024 GMC Acadia will begin early next year.
