Here is a taste of the Polestar 3 2022
Polestar – Volvo’s premium and electric division – is preparing to market its third model. It’s about Polestar 3, an electric SUV that will be between a compact and an intermediate in terms of proportion and which aims to compete with the BMW iX and the Jaguar I-Pace. According to the press release sent to us by the manufacturer, its marketing is scheduled for early 2022.
In addition to the image of this camouflaged prototype which allows to see part of the overall shape and proportions of the vehicle, Polestar remains very discreet as to the technical characteristics of the vehicle. Polestar 3. We do know, however, that it will be assembled alongside the upcoming Volvo XC90 at the Volvo plant in Charleston, South Carolina. It is the first Polestar vehicle to be assembled in North America.
According to the CEO of the company, Thomas Ingenlath, the Polestar 3 will be in the category of luxury SUV with a sporting vocation. Nothing is clear yet as to its full platform, batteries and specs, but given that it will be produced on a whole new assembly line alongside a next-gen Volvo product, we could expect a new modular dedicated platform, and not the CMA currently used by the Polestar 2, or even a modified version of it.
Remember that this structure was originally designed to also support vehicles with thermal engines, such as the Volvo XC40, by the way.
The Polestar 3 could therefore mean that it is a platform only dedicated to electric vehicles, which would make sense considering that, even Volvo, recently started its zero emission shift with the C40 Recharge.
However, Mr. Ingenlath confirmed that his first SUV will be equipped with the latest technological advancements from the manufacturer in terms of driver assistance systems, including LIDARs designed in partnership with the firm Luminar and equipped with a central powered artificial intelligence. by computer giant NVIDIA.
New batteries, much more energy efficient than in the past, could also be offered, at least if we can trust the technological summit to which the manufacturer invited us a few months ago.
Polestar will tell us more about their new vehicle in the next few weeks. Of course, RPM will have the chance to test it before it goes on sale to give you its impressions.
