High demand for the 2024 Kia EV9 poses a problem for reservation

It was last April that the Kia EV9 2024 made its official debut in broad daylight at the New York Auto Show. The manufacturer then presented its very first electric SUV capable of accommodating up to 7 occupants. Following this premiere, the manufacturer posted on its Canadian website the details concerning the versions and the autonomy, just a few days ago. This was in view of the launch of the online pre-order process which took place on July 31st. However, the event did not take place as planned.

A system that failed along the way

Yesterday was the big day for anyone who wanted to get their hands on a reservation for the 2024 Kia EV9. However, the strong demand that caused high traffic on the site prevented many people from completing their pre-order. Indeed, several people occupied a certain rank in the queue, when an error message appeared on the page. After the page auto-refreshed, those people would then have found themselves more than 5,000 places down the rank, before the page eventually crashed. Several comments of this kind from consumers could be noted on the publication of Kia Canada, which apologizes for the problem that occurred on its social media.

We tried to find out more about the problem and how it was solved. However, Kia Canada has not responded to our request, at the time of this writing. We were also unable to know the number of pre-orders that could have been completed on July 31.

A model that will be popular

This situation clearly demonstrates the enthusiasm surrounding the 2024 Kia EV9. Indeed, Kia’s electric SUV is currently alone in this category, since the competitors, in terms of seating capacity, display a price above $100,000, which which shouldn’t be the case with the EV9. Many people are currently looking for a vehicle with an electric motor and a seating capacity of 6 to 7 occupants.

The 2024 Kia EV9 will be offered in 4 versions. The entry-level will offer a range of 480 kilometers with rear-wheel drive, while the three other versions will offer between 391 and 435 kilometers, depending on the level of equipment. The last three will also include standard all-wheel drive. The price range has yet to be revealed, however, as of this writing. It will be known at a later date this year.

According to a recent press release from Kia Canada, only a limited quantity of the first vehicles built for the Canadian market can be reserved by registering on the manufacturer’s website. A deposit of $1,000 will then be required, depending on the information obtained.
