GM decided to revive its brand Hummer, disappeared since 2010, by associating it this time with an electric model in order to make people forget its less brilliant ecological past. While the first Hummer EV, an imposing military-style vehicle, is quietly arriving on our roads, GM intends to exploit the brand in the future by adding a few additional models.
According to a person close to GM, the automaker has on the drawing board an electric midsize pickup that will become the second model offered at Hummer. The vehicle would thus be part of the manufacturer’s electrification strategy.
According to reports, a more compact Hummer is still on the drawing board at GM’s design studios in California, and there’s a good chance the model will enter production within the next few years. Since this is private information, the source did not want to be identified.
We already know that the manufacturer will produce an SUV version of its current Hummer pickup; the model is expected to go into production as early as next year. According to GM, its Hummer brand benefits from public recognition, and the manufacturer intends to exploit this to the maximum by adding other vehicles to its range.
The Hummer brand is at the heart of GM’s electrification strategy, which has stated that it wants to invest $35 billion in order to market 35 electrified vehicles by 2025, including the Chevrolet Blazer EV, Equinox EV and Sierra EV as well as the Cadillac Lyriq.
GM mentions having accepted 90,000 reservations for the Hummer, of which 781 copies were delivered to our neighbors to the south. Prices are between $88,898 and $125,898.
Conclusion
It’s no surprise that GM plans to introduce a few models through its Hummer brand. It will be remembered that the manufacturer has done this in the past with its H2, H3 and H3 SUT. An intermediate model could be interesting, because it will certainly display a more accessible price.
