The mid-size sedan segment has lost some weight over the years with the departure of certain manufacturers from this category. However, some are still showing their presence, Toyota, Honda and Hyundai, to name a few. Moreover, Hyundai has just updated its online configurator, which allows us to learn more about the price range for the 2024 model year of the Sonata. Furthermore, we learn at the same time that Hyundai Canada has carried out a review of its offer and will no longer offer hybrid engines.
Aesthetic refresh and price increase
From the first glance at the front end of the 2024 Hyundai Sonata, it’s hard not to notice the aesthetic refresh the midsize sedan is undergoing. In addition to this change, the 2024 Sonata gets an all-new, more modern and technological dashboard, a new steering wheel as well as the possibility of offering all-wheel drive as an option, depending on the version selected.
However, all these changes will not happen without a price increase. In fact, the entry price for a 2024 Hyundai Sonata will be $3,400 higher than the 2023 model year. MSRP (Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price), including freight and PDI , therefore increases to $34,524 for the entry-level version.
This price increase is also attributable to a higher level of equipment on the entry-level version. For example, the seat surface is now leather, instead of fabric. A panoramic sunroof is also part of the standard features as well as the front seat ventilation function. So these examples can justify the price increase of a few thousand dollars for the 2024 model year.
Here is the table which illustrates the price of each version of the 2024 Hyundai Sonata:
Releases | MSRP, including freight and PDI* |
Preferred-Trend FWD | $34,524 |
Preferred-Trend AWD | $36,524 |
N-Line | $41,124 |
*Please note that certain additional charges are displayed on the Hyundai Canada website. A detailed explanation is available in the manufacturer’s online configurator.
The hybrid version will not be brought back to us in 2024
Last August, Hyundai Canada revealed all the details regarding the 2024 Sonata. At that time, the South Korean manufacturer informed us that a hybrid engine would be offered alongside two other thermal engines. However, we learned today from Hyundai Canada that the hybrid engine will no longer be offered on its refreshed mid-size sedan. In fact, we are told that this decision was taken after the manufacturer carried out a reassessment of the needs in this vehicle segment for the Canadian market.
The refreshed 2024 Hyundai Sonata should arrive in Canadian dealerships very soon.
