Increase in sales for manufacturers in the last quarter, Mitsubishi in the lead

The firm Roses recently released September sales results. The news is good for most manufacturers. The analysis firm highlights a 19% increase in the level of sales in Canada compared to the same month last year when 155,250 vehicles were sold. The increase exceeds the 18.3% observed last August, it is the largest increase in a year compared to the previous year so far.

General Motors leads the way for the month with an increase of 14.6% as it recorded a total of 197,349 vehicles sold. The surprise comes from Mitsubishi with sales up 155.8% for the last quarter; the manufacturer therefore experiences an increase of 67.9% for the cumulative year compared to 2022. This is quite surprising if we consider the fact that the brand does not offer many new features in terms of models. The Outlander and Outlander PHEV were the best sellers in the Mitsubishi range, with 4,960 and 4,683 vehicles sold respectively. The RVR follows closely with 4,626 vehicles sold in 2023.

As for the manufacturers who experienced the least growth, Hyundai is at 0% increase with sales almost identical to the same period last year, same observation for Mercedes-Benz. The only negative result, FCA (Stellantis) with a decrease of -1.2% compared to 2022.

Year-to-date, Land Rover is doing well among luxury brands with an annual increase of 42.2%, and Lexus is up 30%.

Since January 2022, overall monthly vehicle sales in Canada showed negative results compared to the previous year. It is only since November 2022 that the results have been positive.
