It’s officially the end of the Audi R8

In October 2022, we learned that the Audi R8 was going to be withdrawn from the range in 2023. The high-performance car, produced for 17 years and renewed twice during its run, will finally have retired in 2024. It is now a done deal! The latest Audi R8 has just left the Bollinger Hofe manufacturing plant in Neckarsulm, Germany.

Goodbye R8

Why then did you plan for the end of the R8 in 2022, but officially end production in 2024? Simply because demand for the car surged following the manufacturer’s announcement, which forced (and it must not have been difficult to convince) Audi to manufacture the vehicle a few more months after the promised date. .

Audi aimed to produce a final 2,000 examples when it declared in 2022. The manufacturer will have succeeded in achieving its objective thanks to the renewed enthusiasm for the car. Of the 2,000 R8s, 333 examples were equipped with the iconic 5.2-liter V10 engine.

It is also this edition, the GT Performance equipped with the V10, which closes the production ball. Painted Vegas yellow, it is also equipped with Audi’s famous 4-wheel drive system (quattro). The latter clearly leaves no one indifferent!

A museum life

The ultimate replica of the Audi R8 left the production plant last week. It is not intended for any specific customer, however, as Audi plans to keep the final R8 in its official museum in Ingolstadt, Germany.

We say museum, but in reality, the Audi Tradition is more of a private collection of the manufacturer. This place, which is unfortunately not open to the public, is full of intact examples of the manufacturer’s history. Rest assured, the cars kept in this department also travel around the globe to attend events and, on occasion, be driven at full throttle.

The “Iron Man” car will therefore have had a colorful career. We don’t know exactly what will replace the R8, but one thing is certain: the next vehicle will not be equipped with the V10 currently used since it is also removed from the range.
