Jeep offers optional Gorilla Glass for Gladiator and Wrangler

The Jeep wrangler and Gladiator will be the first large production vehicles to offer a windshield in gorilla glass. So far, only a few exotic cars offered it.

Options are well-known features on the product side Jeep, especially when opening the MOPAR accessories catalog. However, in terms of durability, Jeep will offer a new option that will certainly appeal to many buyers: a windshield in gorilla glass.

The particularity of this glass is its exceptional impact resistance. The secret is in the design of the alkali-aluminosilicate glass which is chemically modified. Corning engineers replaced sodium ions with potassium ions whose molecules are larger, which increases the pressure and density of the glass. As a result, the glass is thinner and lighter while being quite a bit stronger. In fact, most smartphones adopt Gorilla Glass.

What is the advantage of integrating it on a Jeep Wrangler or Jeep Gladiator? The reasons are numerous and could also apply to all vehicles. Resistance to impacts from rock or debris on the road and lightness. A few pounds less is never a bad thing on a vehicle since it promotes lower fuel consumption. Certainly a coincidence during the last unveiling of the concepts of Jeep at the Moab Easter Jeep Safari last spring, the manufacturer presented the Jeep Wrangler Orange Peelz precisely equipped with a windshield of Gorilla glass.

The option will arrive on almost all models of the Wrangler and Gladiator lines. The good news ? This option is not very expensive, it sells for $ 95 in the United States. We can therefore expect a hundred dollars in Canada. Importantly, 2007 model year Jeep Wrangler owners will be able to retrofit their vehicle with a Gorilla Glass windshield as well.
