Often forgotten, but far from boring, the Land Rover Range Rover Velar – undoubtedly one of the most attractive luxury SUVs on the market – is getting an update for the 2024 model year. The main goal is to better harmonize it with the automaker’s latest models, including the all-new Range Rover, introduced in 2022.
This mid-term update only slightly alters the Velar’s excellent design. It’s mostly its headlights, grille and bumpers that get the majority of the changes, while new body color schemes and rims round it all out.
Simplification of versions and engines
Undoubtedly due to the fact that its sales are hardly remarkable, Land Rover is compressing the offer of versions and engines for the 2024 Velar. Only two versions are now offered, namely the Dynamic SE (base price of $71,830) and Dynamic HSE ($91,931).
From the outset, the 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine (P250) remains in the game. Its power and torque are unchanged at 247 horsepower and 269 lb-ft. Then comes the P400 mu by a 3.0-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder. Combined with the 48-volt mild hybrid, this engine develops a total combined power of 395 horsepower and produces 405 lb-ft of torque. All Velars sold here come standard with four-wheel drive and the two engines offered are mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
A cleaner cabin and more up-to-date technologies
Land Rover upgrades Velar’s cabin only where it counts, such as in smoked chrome finishes that add a touch of modern prestige to the vehicle. New seats made of wool and sustainable materials allow the vehicle to better align with the latest trends in the segment, while an all-new digital instrumentation, inspired by the Range Rover, brings the whole thing up to date.
In addition to having reviewed the general ergonomics of the model, especially in terms of storage in the center console, Land Rover has installed its latest 11.4-inch floating digital tablet. It incorporates the manufacturer’s Pivi Pro multimedia interface, capable of updating remotely and finally offering Android Auto and Apple CarPlay wirelessly. According to Land Rover, the updates may alter certain technical characteristics, such as the behavior of the gearbox or the performance of the engine, while adding new functionalities to the vehicle.
At the time of this writing, it was possible to configure a Velar 2024 on the Land Rover Canada site. The first deliveries are expected by spring. Until then, RPM will try to get hold of a copy to give you their impressions.
