Lexus LX returns to the modern era with the LX600 2022

The universe of large prestige SUVs continues to renew itself. After all the others, even the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, the Lexus LX is revised from A to Z in the wake of the introduction of the Toyota Land Cruiser from which it is derived. It also becomes the LX600.

The last time the Lexus LX was completely revised in 2007. Even if it remains a model whose sales volume is quite limited, it remains important for the prestige of Lexus. With this SUV, Lexus allows itself to play in the flower beds of products such as the Mercedes-Benz G-Class and the Land Rover Range Rover, its two main competitors.

Always a Land Cruiser

For 2022, the LX follows exactly the same approach as the previous generations. The formula remains the same: we take a Toyota Land Cruiser and we redesign the body. The design of the LX 2022 is very scalable compared to the model it replaces. The set is more mature, less forced as the model was since 2015. We renew the gargantuan grille in hourglass. It now has 7 satin chrome bands. The position of the optical units remains high, but, for the first time, daytime lighting is in 3 dimensions.

Robust profile

On the silhouette, the angles are stronger. We note the effort of the stylists to move the windshield back slightly. We are aiming for a longer hood and a rearward-mounted interior for more dynamism. The wheel arches are particularly sculpted. As for the rims, depending on the version, they will vary between 18 and 22 inches. For the rear, simplicity is invited with a style that is very close to what we find on the Infiniti QX80, another of its competitors. Interestingly, 10 years after removing it, Lexus returns with the LEXUS name on the trunk. It therefore follows the approach of its little brother, the NX 2022.

21st century interior

One of the negatives of the older generation was its interior layout. As it dated from another era, ergonomics and accessories could not keep up with the competition. We now arrive with a style that is both modern and technological. The digital age is entering through the front door with the presence of the 12.3-inch multimedia screen launched on the NX 2022. Below, this time we discover another 7-inch screen which, just like at Land Rover, allows to have access to almost all other commands. The partnership with Mark Levinson continues with the integration of an optional audio system with 25 speakers.

The great luxury

At the back, taking a seat there will no longer be a punishment. Lexus completely revised the layout and even offered an “Executive” configuration with two seats and a large central console. It will even be possible to move the front passenger seat forward to increase clearances up to 43 inches.

The end of the V8

Much like the Land Cruiser, the Tundra and, certainly, the Sequoia, the V8 era is over in the LX. It adopts the new 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 that develops 409 horsepower and produces 479 pound-feet of torque. This engine is mated to the new 10-speed automatic transmission. For the moment, Lexus does not mention the integration of the hybrid powertrain initially presented in the Tundra 2022.

Always able

One of the Lexus LX’s trump cards has always been its off-road capabilities. 2022 is no exception. It renews its high and low ranges in addition to the Multi-Terrain Select management program (Auto, Dust, Sand, Mud, Deep snow and Rocks). For added comfort and capacity, the suspensions are 4-stage adaptive and can raise the LX to a height that allows it to fit in 27.5 inches of water. An important feature for the 2 or 3 people who will actually be doing off-road activities, the approach angle is 45 degrees.

An F-Sport version

Lexus returns with a slightly more dynamic F-Sport version. At first glance, we notice the presence of a mesh grille and the complete removal of chrome accents from the entire body. The rims are de facto 22 inches. Finally, the suspensions are revisited for more firmness and “sportiness”. A Torsen limited-slip rear differential even joins the team.

What, when and how much?

For the rest of the range, we will have to wait a few more months before officially knowing what the variations will be in Canada and, above all, what the price scale will be. For now, the 2021 LX 570 has a base price of $ 115,510.
