Hemi is dead, long live the hemi! This is a bit like that we could translate the recent voltage of Stellantis concerning its Dodge Durango which will be able to benefit at least one more year from this V8 which appears in its lands. The Dodge Durango SRT 392 put on the test undoubtedly exposes the outdated aspect of this gluttony mechanism, but how captivating at the same time.
From a 6.4 l displacement in the case that concerns us, this variant has not been technically offered for a few months under the hood of the intermediate SUV. This may be garnished for 2025 only with 5.7 l and 6.2 l V8 supercharged by compressors of 360 hp and 710 hp respectively, in addition to the 3.6 L V6 (293 hp) .

Dodge Durango SRT 392
Beautifully flexible and lined with a sound punctuated by heavy percussion, this rocker V8 defines the driving experience. There are 475 hp in reserve, but it is invariably the 470 lb-ft of torque that lead the charge as soon as the accelerator is touched. Nothing is perfect however, far from it: its consumption is worthy of another era and its system of deactivation of the displacement sporadically transmits important vibrations to the passenger compartment.
Not only a mechanical question
The current generation of Durango dates back to 2011, an eternity in automotive language. However, this obvious old age does not seem in its temperament; It presents a very interesting palette of shades and stability ensured by its long wheelbase, its piloted depreciation and its powerful full cog. Its 3,496 kg of towing capacity (8700 kg) also make it versatile.

Although some plastics betray its age, the cabin remains a beautiful space where to swallow the kilometers. The front seats are impeccable comfort, the last cuvée infotainment system is complete and fast. The rear seats are still welcoming, if you are satisfied with the middle zone, because the third row is narrow and difficult to access.
There is obviously an aspect exceeded in this product, but it must be admitted that its versatility and homogeneity eclipse many more recent rivals that are lost in untenable promises.
