Lincoln unveils electrification plan
Following the industry trend, Lincoln has just announced that, by 2030, its entire model range will be electric. The first vehicle to no longer depend on a combustion engine will, unsurprisingly, be an SUV. It will be added to the range in 2022.
The announcement of a Lincoln electric SUV is not new. Several rumors had been circulating online to this effect for some time, and Ford’s luxury division had even already announced that this mysterious vehicle would use Rivian technology. Lincoln did an about-face, however, and will use his own resources instead.
Everything suggests that this SUV, which will be roughly the same size as an Aviator (its name is not yet announced), will be based on the same architecture and will be powered by the same batteries as the Ford Mustang Mach-E. This would allow it to use propulsion or 4-wheel drive, while offering a range that can approach 500 kilometers.
We might expect, however, a singular design, as Lincoln has known so well for some time. Moreover, Lincoln does not hide the fact that this SUV will be inspired by the Zephyr Reflection concept which was unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show last April. No electric car is in Lincoln’s plans, however. Instead, expect a bunch of SUVs.
Lincoln also took the opportunity to announce that in 2020 it made a third of its sales online. The manufacturer thus plans to increase its internet purchasing tools to allow consumers to purchase a vehicle remotely, without having to go through the dealership. Recall that Tesla, Genesis and Polestar already use a business model of its kind.
