Maserati announces the end of production of V8 engines
The automotive world is currently in transition, and large displacement engines will go under the knife, in the majority of cases. Several manufacturers have already made announcements to this effect. Today, as part of the Motor Valley Fest which takes place in Modena, Italy, maserati announced that it will eliminate the V8 engine of its vehicles, after 2024.
A new era
It was in 1959 that the very first Maserati equipped with a V8 engine was born. However, 64 years later, the manufacturer sounded the death knell for 8-cylinder engines in its vehicles. Indeed, Maserati has just announced that it will cease production of the latter, during the year 2023, but that the manufacturer’s vehicles equipped with this engine will remain on sale during the year 2024. This therefore means that the possibility of having a V8 engine in the Levante, Ghibli and Quattroporte is coming to an end. According to the manufacturer, its vehicles will become collector’s items for all lovers of the sound and performance of this engine. Subsequently, a page of history will turn for Maserati in this chapter to make way for a new era.
Make way for electric
As the manufacturer mentions, the future of the trident brand is electric. With the integration of the brand’s first two electric vehicles, the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore and the Maserati Grecale Folgore, the manufacturer’s electric shift has begun. Maserati has made it its mission to offer an electric version for each of its models by 2025 and to be an all-electric car brand by 2030.
A last chance
As has been the case for other manufacturers, Maserati has one last surprise up its sleeve for lovers of big cars. Indeed, during the Goodwood Festival of Speed which will take place next July, the manufacturer plans to unveil the Ghibli 334 Ultima and the Levante V8 Ultima. These two models under the Trofeo range will be the ultimate editions, before the end of the 8-cylinder era at Maserati. Their price range as well as their availability will be known during the official launch.
