Mercedes-Benz unveils pricing for its 2022 EQS 580 4MATIC

Mercedes-Benz is about to market its first electric car, a vehicle that will rub shoulders with the Porsche Taycan, the Audi e-tron GT and, above all, the Tesla Model S. The manufacturer has just unveiled the base price of its new fully electric luxury sedan.

The first version offered will be the EQS 580 4MATIC 2022 ; it will be marketed at the base price of $ 144,200, which is still higher than that of the Tesla Model S ($ 114,900) but also the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo ($ 119,900).

We understand that this EQS will not allow Mercedes-Benz to democratize the electric car, but it will be the flagship vehicle of the EQS range. It marks the start of a new era in North America for the three-pointed star. It remains to be seen whether we will be entitled to the EQS 450, a rear-wheel drive model that should be sold at a lower price.

The car benefits from a new modular architecture which will be entirely dedicated to the manufacturer’s electrical innovations. As its name 4MATIC indicates, the car will benefit from an all-wheel drive offered as standard thanks to two electric motors, the first mounted on the front axle, and the second, on the rear axle; the power developed by the two engines amounts to 516 horsepower. The announced autonomy is 700 kilometers according to European standards; it will be less in Canada, but still a more than interesting autonomy.

A luxurious and technological interior

The manufacturer wanted the interior of the EQS 580 to be rich and luxurious. In addition, it is very spectacular with its hyper-display MBUX consisting of three screens that merge into a single curved glass panel 56 inches in length.

In terms of styling, the car is heavily inspired by the Vision EQS Concept, and while it incorporates visual cues from the S-Class, the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4MATIC 2022 It quickly sets itself apart from gasoline models thanks to its slender silhouette and several touches that enhance its aerodynamics, in particular its fully enclosed black grille. Its design also evokes that of a sports coupe; the effect is provided mainly by the roof which plunges sharply at the rear. A choice of wheels ranging from 20 to 22 inches will also be offered.

The car will be produced at the Sindelfingen plant in Germany alongside the S-Class. The 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4MATIC will go on sale in Canada by the end of the year.
