Mercedes-Benz unveils the interior of the 2023 EQS SUV
As expected, Mercedes Benz continues to expand its electric range. As with gasoline-powered vehicles, electric sedans will also be entitled to their penchant in the form of a sport utility. The first is the EQS, so it is normal that it is the one joined by the EQS SUV. According to the habit of everything with the letter S at Mercedes-Benz, the EQS SUV will be the largest in the family.
This utility is the third product developed by Mercedes-Benz to be built on a platform entirely dedicated to electrification. It follows the EQS and EQE in the timeline. We know that the small SUV EQB is on the same foundation as its gasoline penchant.
The full presentation of the EQS SUV will be on April 19, most certainly as part of the Shanghai Auto Show. In the meantime, the manufacturer reveals the interior of the vehicle. Unsurprisingly, it follows the EQS and EQE approach to the letter. The highlight of the show remains the huge 56-inch-wide wall light that brings together no less than three separate screens in front of the occupants.
The driver gets a 12.3-inch instrumentation, the front passenger is also entitled to this treatment and he will be able to watch videos without this distracting the driver. All the passenger has to do is put on a wireless headset to literally be in their world. To ensure that the driver cannot watch this monitor in action, sensors observe it and will dim the screen so that it is no longer able to see properly. This is a future first for the German manufacturer.
Being at Mercedes-Benz and especially at the level of the letter S, the cabin is dressed in the finest leathers and woodwork. According to the press release from Mercedes-Benz, no less than seven color choices will be available. The manufacturer is no stranger to aromatherapy and home fragrances, with the EQS SUV, we offer a new fragrance, the No.6 Mood Mimosa.
For music lovers, this sport utility will also integrate high sound technology in 3D and 4D Dolby Atmos with the Burmester sound system. The precursor concept vehicle of the EQS SUV was under the claw of the high prestige division Maybach, so it is to be expected that an even more luxurious version is in the cards.
Being one of the heaviest SUVs in the lineup alongside the GLS, it’s only fitting that it offers a spacious cabin. Mercedes-Benz, however, uses a comparison to the smaller GLE to draw a space parallel. It is maintained that the EQS SUV will have more third-row clearance than the GLE. Not to mention trunk volume, it is emphasized that it will be able to accommodate the equivalent of four golf bags.
On a technical level, there is a very good chance that the EQS SUV will be modeled on the sedan. The mechanics will probably consist of 2 electric motors in the 580 version. The expected power is 516 horsepower with a torque of 611 lb-ft. An AMG 53 variant is also to be expected. For Canadian models, like the EQS, all will be all-wheel drive thanks to the dual motorization. As for the battery, it should be 120 kilowatt hours with 107.8 kilowatt hours usable. Autonomy is not yet confirmed.
Obviously, the ground clearance will be higher. Adaptive and pneumatic suspensions will be included to vary the height of the body. In addition, it will enjoy four directional wheels with those of the rear axle that can pivot up to 10 degrees. This is a very useful characteristic for dynamic driving, in urban traffic and off-road.
