Outline of the quality improvement offensive at Volkswagen

After admitting that its multimedia systems and the general ergonomics of its vehicles must be completely reviewed, the group volkswagen has just announced its offensive to completely review the quality of its models, but also to better differentiate its brands, while leaking some information on future electric models.

It is within the framework of the Extraordinary General Meeting 2022 media event that Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Volkswagen Group – which currently owns the brands Audi, Bentley, Cupra, Lamborghini, Porsche, SEAT, Skoda, not to mention motorcycle manufacturer Ducati and commercial vehicle manufacturer Traton – spoke briefly about his offensive to transform the company.

Volkswagen’s strategy aims above all to better align the manufacturer with the needs of the future, especially in terms of electrification, but also in terms of manufacturing efficiency while solidifying the brand’s identity. Mr. Blume began by quickly explaining that, in the future, the various Volkswagen brands will all be enhanced with a new design language so that they can distinguish themselves even better from one another.

The other aspect of the offensive is a complete overhaul of the manufacturer’s quality standards. Volkswagen has been under scrutiny recently for a significant drop in this regard. This decline was mainly observed on the side of the Golf GTI / R, the Tiguan, the Atlas and the electric ID.4. However, in addition to completely revamping the multimedia systems and ergonomics, Volkswagen will rely more than ever on quality products in order to regain its reputation with consumers.

Mr. Blume also gave some information on the new products in the Volkswagen range. The Golf (sold here only in GTI and R versions) will receive a mid-term update in 2023 on the European side, but it will be necessary to wait until the 2024 model year before seeing these changes apply to our version.

There will also be an all-new next-generation Tiguan, enhanced with an electric version. It would also be the last Tiguan to offer a gasoline version. Volkswagen could lift the veil on the European model within a few months. However, we will have to wait several more months before seeing the North American version. We will get back to you with more details as soon as they are available.
