Pininfarina Pura Vision: ecological exoticism

The Battista won’t be the Italian coachbuilder and automaker’s only offering Pininfarina. While a new production model will be introduced at Monterey Car Week in California, we will also see a vision of the brand’s future with the presentation of the high-prestige sport utility, PURA Vision.

It is original to say the least! One recognizes the typical traits of the Italians in terms of design. It is particularly striking at the front with the configuration of the optical units which resemble those of the Ferrari Purosangue and the new Toyota Prius. On the PURA, we propose a new technology in terms of illuminating element with the LESS, a nanofiber technology less than a millimeter thick. According to the manufacturer, this innovation allows powerful lighting and more possibilities for its layout.

The lower part, very simple, allows both more efficient aerodynamics and cooling. Several body components are bare. Materials like carbon fiber and aluminum are ubiquitous. To sit the vehicle well, it is fitted with 23-inch rims that feature a white border for a somewhat retro look. The domed wings are inspired by the 1947 Cisitalia. At the rear, as at the front, simplicity is essential with lights restricted to simple light strips.

The spectacle is at the opening of the cockpit. Of the “Lounge” type, according to Pininfarina, it is inspired by the Lancia Florida, a gull wing rises for the upper part while “suicide” type doors open for the lower section. Fully glazed, the roof provides greater light on board.

The biscotto type center comes with an LED ring that bridges the front and rear of the cabin. The cabin configuration of type 2 +2 can accommodate up to 4 people in an assertive luxury. The fully digital dashboard is minimalist and boils down to the presence of a first screen on the instrumentation and a second on the console. Blue dials allow control of the driving modes and the gearbox.

For the moment, the PURA is a concept, but it is clear that Pininfarina will soon arrive with a high-prestige SUV in its range. Resolutely ecological, not only is the vehicle electric, but it serves as a laboratory for the integration of new eco-responsible materials.

The leathers come from the food industry to avoid “wasting” the skins. The aluminum used is almost completely recycled, for example, the door sills are made from the remnants of the size of the rims. Wool, plastics and floor mats are eco-responsible. The latter are also derived from marine residues.

Sara Campagnolo sums up the spirit behind the use of materials in PURA well: “Materials are much more than just a coating. They represent the very essence of our vehicles. In line with the PURA philosophy, the PURA Vision uses the highest quality materials, in the minimum quantity and as efficiently as possible, to create a unique, timeless and durable finish. »

The Pininfarina PURA Vision will have its world premiere during Monterey Car Week from August 11 to 20.
