Rhinoplasty for the 2022 Subaru Forester and possibly new engines
Subaru unveils the 2022 version of the Forester for the Japanese market, a premise of what we will have in the coming weeks.
Year in and year out, around 2,500 Foresters are sold on the Quebec market annually. The current generation dates from 2019 and is already in the middle of the cycle. Subaru unveils a new version of the Forester slightly refreshed with some aesthetic and technical tweaks.
From the outside, the action only happens in the front. Subaru redesigned the shape of the light units by reducing the size of the main section. As a result, the front bumper is revised and displays more pronounced features; the same goes for the rear bumper. As is the case with the current model, vertical LED fog lights will equip most versions of the Forester. Likewise, the design of the internal structure of the radiator grille is also revisited.
For the rear part, Subaru does not bother to provide several images, only one in reality since there does not seem to be any evolution. In this vein of evolution, we are discovering a variety of new colors and 18 inch rims for the vehicle. Nothing new in the cabin other than improved camera coverage for the EyeSight security system and driver assistance systems.
In terms of mechanics, we’ll have to wait for the official unveiling of the 2022 model designed for North America. A single engine currently powers the Forester, the 2.5-liter flat 4-cylinder engine that develops 182 horsepower and produces 176 pound-feet of torque.
There are rumors that we could get the powerplant for the Japanese sport version. The latter is powered by a turbocharged 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine that develops 174 horsepower and, most importantly, produces 221 lb-ft of torque.
From a more ecological point of view, it is also hoped that Subaru will integrate e-boxer technology into the North American range of the Forester. Well known in Europe, this hybrid powertrain is made up of a 2.0-liter, 150-horsepower 4-cylinder engine and a 16.7-horsepower electric motor.
As for other possibilities, technically, we could graft the Forester with the 2.4-liter turbocharged Legacy, Outback and Ascent with its 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft. We talk about it as the possible return of an XT.
the Subaru Forester 2022 North American will be unveiled in the coming weeks. In terms of aesthetics, few surprises are to be expected, but in terms of mechanics, we have hope.
