Rivian’s commercial van now available to all businesses

The Amazon company has gone electric in recent years with the integration of a fleet of commercial vans built in partnership with Rivian. The vehicles, which we call Amazon Electric Delivery Van (EDV), have been the envy of several companies seeking electrification. Now the manufacturer announces that it will be possible to opt for the same vehicle as the digital giant by ordering the Rivian Delivery a truck based on the EDV platform but reserved only for the United States market for the moment.

Two models

The van will be offered in 2 variants, the 500 and the 700. The smaller of the two will have dimensions similar to those of the EDV. Perfectly suited to urban areas, according to Rivian, the Delivery 500 has a length of 6,312 millimeters, a height of 2,895 millimeters and a width of 2,438 millimeters. As for the 700 variant, it promises a length of 7,061 millimeters, a height of 2,896 millimeters and a width of 2,616 millimeters.

In terms of mechanics, the van has a charger that allows recharging at a power of up to 100 kilowatts. The EPA standard states that the vehicle should be able to travel approximately 260 kilometers on a full charge in the 500 variant and 246 kilometers in the 700. Both vehicles use an identical battery with a capacity of 135 kilowatt hours and which is placed under floor. For the moment, the vehicle is only offered in front-wheel drive, but some rumors suggest that a 4-wheel drive version could be in the plans.

A ton of technology

Rivian promises to offer several technological ingredients to make its van innovative and to make life easier for vehicle fleet managers. The manufacturer offers a telematics system that allows you to monitor a fleet remotely and geolocate vehicles, know the traffic speed and the state of charge of the battery.

The Deliveries will also provide a ton of information to keep managers informed of the status of the vehicles. It will be possible to know the tire pressure, odometer and battery status thanks to a personalized application. This same application will allow you to remotely control the Delivery and thus unlock or start the vans.

Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking, sophisticated driver assistance features, three airbags and a 360-degree camera system that the driver can view on the 15.6 central screen inches. The van’s design also emphasizes efficiency and ergonomics for the driver, according to Rivian, and includes a right-side sliding door, a roll-up rear door, an automated bulkhead door, a heated driver’s seat and cooling as well as a heated steering wheel.

Marketed by Rivian’s commercial division, Delivery is expected to be available across the United States within the next year. No announcement has been made regarding the van coming to Canada, but it would not be impossible that it would also be offered domestically.
