Safety equipment missing on the Fisker Ocean One

The name Fisker might be telling you something? This American manufacturer is the one who produced the Karma, an electric sedan with a range extender using a gasoline engine. After experiencing financial difficulties, the manufacturer is resurfacing and this time plans to tackle the electric SUV market with a first model that will soon enter the market. Fisker will offer an aggressive pricing approach toOcean by posting a starting price below $44,000 for an electric SUV.

Production starts as planned

As provided for in the timetable published by the manufacturer on its website, the Fisker Ocean One will indeed go into production in November 2022. For the time being, only the launch edition will be produced, but once the first 5,000 copies have been produced, the others will go into production at a later date which has not yet yet been announced. In Canada, the first Oceans should hit the ground from June 2023.

Features not available until 2024

Any good news can also come with its dark side. Indeed, the manufacturer Fisker will not escape the shortage of microprocessors and the constraints coming from the supply chains which have weighed on the automotive industry since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Fisker CEO, Henrik Fisker, still maintains its intention to launch the Ocean 2023 electric SUV. It could therefore be that, like some other manufacturers, this new SUV could be deprived of certain functions.

However, in this case, we are not talking about heated seats or an absent heated steering wheel, but rather safety features. Indeed, the launch edition will come without blind-spot detection, lane-keeping assist and automatic high beams. Additionally, other features like cruise control, lane-keeping assist and traffic jam assist won’t arrive until late 2023. The only good news for buyers, the CEO says, are updates. Live software updates will be available at a later date and will make adding functionality easier than before.

Despite this, this news may represent a big disappointment for those who have placed an online reservation for this new electric SUV which displays a price of $89,999 before taxes for the launch edition. For his part, Henrik Fisker is counting on the fact that the Ocean will offer unique characteristics, depending on the model chosen.

Among these features are the sunroof, the California mode which allows, at the touch of a button, to open all the windows of the vehicle as well as the sunroof simultaneously, without forgetting the swiveling screen of 17.1 inches which allows the latter to be positioned vertically as in a Ford Mustang Mach-E or horizontally as in a Tesla Model 3.

According to the information provided by the manufacturer, the addition of new remote functionalities should start from mid-2023 and continue gradually until 2024.
