Shell opens world’s largest charging station in China

Electrification could well represent the black gold of the future, especially in terms of charging infrastructure. There oil Shell sniffed out the case, the company began opening charging stations, mainly throughout China. Shell said it currently operates around 800 charging stations for electric vehicles in China through joint ventures or subsidiaries.

The company recently announced that it has opened its largest electric vehicle charging station in the world, located in Shenzhen, China.

The station, located near Shenzhen airport, is built and operated in partnership with the Chinese giant BYD. It has 258 charging points and solar panels capable of generating 300,000 kilowatt hours annually. During the testing period, it served more than 3,300 electric vehicles daily.

In addition to EV charging, the station offers the same amenities as its gas stations, convenience stores, vending machines and, as an added bonus, a drivers lounge.

As the number of electric vehicles increases rapidly, Shell says it remains committed to meeting the different energy and mobility needs of drivers. In Wuhan, Shell recently opened its integrated Panlong Energy Station. It offers more than ten types of mobility-related products and services, including gasoline and diesel, EV charging, hydrogen refueling, car wash facilities, grocery store and restaurant.

Conclusion

With the proliferation of electric vehicles on the road, the charging infrastructure will have to develop at high speed to enable further travel. This infrastructure must also be developed not only for passenger vehicles, but also for recreational vehicles, snowmobiles, personal watercraft, ATVs and others. It seems that Shell sees the future of oil crumbling, and the company has decided to move into electricity distribution.
