Slight price increase for the 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV
Besides this Outlander PHEV which is most attractive in Mitsubishi, that’s the 10-year/160,000-kilometre powertrain warranty offered for all models offered. It was therefore time for the new generation of the plug-in hybrid SUV to see the light of day in Canada, and we now know its selling price.
No price increase
In 2022, you had to pay $46,098 to get your hands on an entry-level copy of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. It will therefore be necessary to spend $2,340 more in 2023, which represents a barely 5% increase. On the other hand, consumers will be entitled to much more than 5% change for 2023, since the vehicle is completely redesigned.
In fact, the gas version of the Outlander has been completely redesigned for 2022, but the PHEV iteration of this same year was frozen in time: the manufacturer will have waited until now before changing to a new generation of this popular vehicle in Quebec.
What’s more, the battery size, which exceeds the required 15 kilowatt-hours (or 20 kilowatt-hours), now allows the Outlander PHEV to qualify for provincial and federal government rebates of $5,000 each, for a total of 10 $000. Previously, only $5,000 in total could be deducted from the bill by the two governments.
In addition to the basic version (ES S-AWC), four other versions are also marketed for 2023. The second least expensive of the lot, LE S-AWC, displays a price that crosses the $50,000 mark, at $53,138. It offers, among other things, a panoramic roof, an electric tailgate and a 360-degree camera.
The mid-range SEL S-AWC version commands a price tag of $55,948 and starts to feature luxury features. Seats covered in quilted leather, 20-inch rims or even heated rear seats are included.
Then, the next version GT S-AWC, which retails for $58,248, is the most equipped version of the lot. It includes a semi-autonomous driving system, a head-up display and a high-end Bose sound system. The Premium option package can be added to this version, and the latter allows the Outlander to be equipped with massage front seats.
Even more electrified
The previous generation of the Outlander PHEV could only travel 39 kilometers on electric mode with a full battery charge. This autonomy is thus improved by nearly 57% for 2023, when the car can now travel 61 kilometers in electric mode.
Average fuel consumption is thereby slightly improved, now standing at 9.0 litres/100 kilometers compared with 9.1 litres/100 kilometers in 2022. On the other hand, its total range increases from 470 kilometers to 626 kilometers, largely due to the fuel tank capacity increasing from 45 to 56 litres.
Under its hood is a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine that develops 131 horsepower and produces 143 lb-ft of torque. This data might seem insufficient to you, but don’t worry, since two electric motors are joining the game.
An electric motor generates 114 horsepower on the front axle, while a second 134 horsepower drives the rear axle. A 20 kilowatt-hour battery is housed under the floor to power these two electric motors.
