We learned at the beginning of the summer that the preproduction of the Tesla Cybertruck had officially started. The electric van is long overdue for several years, but the company confirms that the manufacturer’s giga-factory, located in Texas, has already manufactured several copies of the vehicle. Details about him are starting to leak out and sometimes are not willingly disclosed by Tesla. This is moreover the case of a spy video which reveals the front part of the cybertruck and where we can see the trunk under the hood.
Rather small
There video published on the TikTok platform unveils a few electric vans that appear to be nearly complete. During the sequence, it is possible to see the Cybertrucks from different angles, with the doors open, or from behind.
It is especially interesting to see the trunk that hides under the hood. At first glance, it does not seem very bulky. Official data is not revealed, and it is difficult to assume that the filmed model is a final version of the vehicle. On the other hand, the video gives an idea of the size that the trunk could have and, one thing is certain, it will not be very deep.
The latter is clearly not as roomy as the 400 liters of the front trunk of the Ford F-150 Lightning. It seems hard to imagine that one can fit golf equipment or a large carrying bag in this cavity. Official numbers aren’t known, but the pickup could come with an electric bed closer that offers plenty of storage space in the back. The prototypes had a sturdy retractable lid that transformed the crate into an airtight trunk. The front trunk would therefore be incidental if the production model is actually equipped with the cash valve.
Is the design wrong?
Elon Musk unveiled the Cybertruck 3 years ago, explaining that the style of the vehicle was particular; it had to breathe some life into the pickup truck segment. In his opinion, the category is boring, and Tesla intends to energize everything.
The bold aesthetic of the Cybertruck would be guilty of its small size, however. Since it has a cut and sharp nose, the designers wouldn’t have enough space to offer a cargo bay worthy of the Ford F-150 Lightning or the Chevrolet Silverado EV. Some subsequent comments to the video clarified that the company is betting more on the design than on the front trunk to sell it, a logical explanation following the manufacturer’s thinking.
It’s still unclear when the first copies of the pickup truck will officially hit the road, but Tesla says it began pre-production of the vehicle in early summer 2023.
