Stellantis invests 155 million in its Indiana factory to develop EV components

Stellantis announced today in a press release that it will invest a total of $155 million over the next few years in three of its plants located in Indiana. These investments will enable the manufacturer to respect its commitments, namely to market 50% of battery-electric vehicles by 2030.

Stellantis will modernize and adapt its factories to produce electric powertrains (EDM) that will be used under the hood of the brand’s future electrified vehicles. These groups will have three main components, namely the electric motor, the gearbox and the electric management.

The whole will be integrated into a single compact module, which will make it possible to use it under the hood of several models of the group and to reduce future development costs. The manufacturer estimates that it will be possible for it to reach a range of 800 kilometers depending on the platform.

You should know that Stellantis plans to introduce 25 new electric vehicles within seven years, the manufacturer must inevitably begin to deploy its strategy. The 4xe plug-in hybrid models are already gaining success, and several electric novelties are on the table. Of the lot, the Ram REV 2024, the Alfa Romeo Tonale and the Dodge Hornet.

“As we continue our transition to a decarbonized future in our European operations, we are now establishing these same fundamentals for the North American market,” said Carlos Tavares, CEO of Stellantis. “By combining the benefits of EDM with our new BEV-centric platforms and innovative battery technologies, we will offer our customers a variety of electric vehicles with unmatched performance and range at more affordable prices. And with our in-house manufacturing capabilities and expertise, we’ll do it with more flexibility and efficiency. »
