Subaru Forester’s turn to receive the Wilderness treatment
It was written in the sky when Subaru had introduced the Outback Wilderness at the beginning of the summer: this variation will be extended to other models of the manufacturer. Not surprisingly, considering the monster popularity of off-road vehicles. It is now the turn of the Forester to follow the trend.
the Subaru Forester Wilderness sports the same aesthetic additions as its colleague, such as huge black redesigned bumpers, exclusive fog lights, Yokohama Geolandar G015 off-road tires wrapping 17-inch black rims, black side sills as well as a black stripe on the hood.
Much like the Outback Wilderness, this adventure-ready Forester comes standard with a reinforced roof rack that can support up to 700 pounds (318 kilos) when stationary and 100 kilos (220 pounds) when in use. moving.
Interesting technical changes
Model-exclusive shocks, 25mm raised ground clearance and skid plates allow the Forester Wilderness to tackle slightly more extreme trails. This suspension reconfiguration also allowed Subaru to revise the approach and flight angles, which went from 20 to 23.5 degrees, and from 24.6 to 25.4 degrees respectively.
Under the hood hides the same 2.5-liter Boxer-type flat-4 engine found in the regular Forester. Its horsepower and torque remain unchanged at 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet. This engine is still mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT), but the rear differential ratio drops from 3.70: 1 to 4.11: 1. According to the manufacturer, this allows the Forester Wilderness to produce more torque at low revs to help it overcome obstacles better.
Twice the towing capacity
But the most interesting thing about this Mountain Forester is a marked improvement in its towing capacity, from 680 kilos (1,500 pounds) to 1,360 kilos (3,000 pounds) thanks to the addition of ‘a transmission cooler. Subaru also took the opportunity to overhaul the engine cooling system to be more resistant to towing requirements. A sensor measuring the temperature of the rear differential oil and a trailer stability assistance system are also standard.
At the time of this writing, we only had details of the US model, and we are awaiting a response from Subaru Canada regarding pricing. However, we know from a reliable source that just like the Outback Wilderness, this Forester would fall between the Sport and Limited versions within the lineup. We could therefore expect a price of around $ 36,000.
