Subaru Legacy gets cosmetic changes for 2023

We had to expect some aesthetic changes for the Subaru Legacy given that the car shares its components with, the Outback, is upgraded for 2023. The automaker has now unveiled its reworked sedan which features a more aggressive front, tweaked wheels and an improved cabin including infotainment .

The most striking element is the oversized grille that takes up almost the entire front. It’s wider and taller and now spills more assertively over the headlights which are also reworked to give them a more aggressive appearance. The result for the front end is a significantly more aggressive and eye-catching appearance than the rather demure 2020 Legacy.

On board, the basic versions, which were equipped with two superimposed 7-inch screens on the dashboard, now have the same 11.6-inch screen as the most equipped versions. Improvements are also made to the EyeSight driver assistance system. All sedans feature an upgraded system that features a better field of vision, better software and a new, more powerful electric brake controller.

In the Touring XT version, it is now equipped with a third camera which improves its efficiency and accuracy, particularly in terms of detecting pedestrians and animals. The detection is carried out more quickly making it possible to avoid a greater number of collisions. Finally, those who decried the partially heated steering wheel will be happy to learn that the heating now takes place over 360 degrees, providing good comfort regardless of the position of the hands on the steering wheel.

Mechanics unchanged

The less expensive versions are still equipped with the 2.5-litre 4-cylinder of 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque, while the GTs will always use the turbocharged 2.4-litre 4-cylinder, which produces 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. The variable automatic transmission (CVT) is still offered as standard, as is the symmetrical full-time all-wheel drive.

In the United States, the Sport version now offers 2.4-litres replacing the 2.5-litres. However, this version is not offered in Canada and there is no indication for us to conclude, for the moment, that it will be in 2023. We are awaiting an answer from Subaru Canada on this subject.

Pricing for the 2023 Subaru Legacy will be revealed closer to the model’s arrival, expected this fall.
