Tesla Cybertruck: Musk wants to take inspiration from LEGO to improve its construction quality
If Tesla had a lot of difficulty with the quality of construction of its vehicles at the start of the course – more particularly with the Model 3 and Model Y – it is now trying by all means to correct the situation. For example, Tesla plans to completely transform its assembly processes at its new factory. GigaMexico which will soon be erected in the region of Nuevo León, Mexico.
So it’s no surprise to learn that Elon Musk spoke to Tesla employees about the importance of the build quality of the Cybertruck, whose mass production is imminent. The controversial billionaire says he wants to take inspiration from companies like LEGO to get there.
Very severe tolerance levels
This information comes to us from a screenshot of an email that Mr. Musk allegedly sent to Tesla employees about the build quality of the Cybertruck. Posted in the forum Cybertruck Owners Clubthe screenshot shows Elon Musk explaining the construction challenges surrounding the van.
Due to its panels made of stainless steel, the Cybertruck cannot afford to have any quality issues. He explains in his email that the very steep angles of the design will show any flaws. This is why it requires that the tolerance thresholds between the panels be less than 10 micrometers.
He then ended his email by saying that “if LEGO and pop cans can do it at lower cost, we can do it too”.
As of this writing, only one copy of the Tesla Cybertruck had been built at the factory GigaTexas of the manufacturer. However, Tesla says it will soon begin production of several copies, without however confirming the date. A launch event called “Delivery Event” where the first copies will be delivered to their owner is also planned by the end of the 3e quarter.
Elon Musk, however, clarified during a call to company shareholders that mass production of the Cybertruck would not begin until early 2024, at a minimum.
