Tesla Model S Plaid arrives, Model S Plaid + is canceled
It was last September that You’re here announced the arrival of an even more powerful variant of its Model S. Model S Plaid, it was to allow the Californian manufacturer to remain in the race for high performance electric models to compete with Lucid Motors with the Air, in particular. As the Model Model S Plaid begins to market, Elon Musk recently tweeted that the Plaid +, an even more insane version, will not see the light of day.
True to form, it is not by official press release, but in a short tweet of a few words and without further explanation that Elon Musk announced that the Tesla Model S Plaid + was canceled. In his words, it was no longer needed, the regular plaid version being too good. The most expensive, high-performance version of Tesla’s flagship model won’t see the light of day, at least in the short term.
Plaid+ is canceled. No need, as Plaid is just so good.

Despite the abandonment of the “+”, the Model S Plaid still has something to seduce thrill seekers. At the heart of the performance of the Tesla Model S Plaid, we find a trio of electric motors that develop a total of 1,020 horsepower, this figure was to be pushed to 1,100 horsepower in the case of the Plaid +. Even so, the regular Plaid had to be able, according to Tesla, to go from 0 to 100 km / hour in about 2 seconds, which will undoubtedly make it the best-performing production car to date.
To this, we add a top speed of 322 kilometers per hour and an estimated range of 628 kilometers. According to Musk, those numbers are about 95% of those in the Model S Plaid +. We understand that the manufacturer might have had difficulty in justifying the price difference between the two.
If Tesla mentions that the regular Plaid offers a level of performance almost as high as the Plaid +, this is not the case for autonomy since the Tesla Model S Plaid + promised a range of 837 kilometers, nothing less.
The Tesla Model Plaid is sold in Canada for a base price of $ 159,990, the Plaid + version, which is still present in the configurator of the Tesla site at the time of this writing, was to be offered from $ 199,990 and marketed mid-2021. No information from Tesla on what the automaker will do with customers who have pre-ordered a Model S Plaid +. Tesla has eliminated its press service and never responds to requests from journalists.
Deliveries of the first Tesla Model S Plaid will begin to our neighbors to the south next week, Canada should receive its first copies later.
