The Acura NSX Type S arrives with 600 horsepower
The Acura NSX has never been so popular, especially in Canada. It struggles to be desirable to collectors or performance enthusiasts, because of its particular style but also its more or less real fame. With the aim of celebrating this generation, but also to create an ultimate version before it is no longer marketed, Acura launches the NSX Type S 2022 with its vitaminized 600 horsepower engine.
Like the other Type S models in the range, the Acura NSX Type S is a supercharged, better performing and sharper version of the sports car we’ve known since 2016. First, the turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine and three electric motors have been upgraded to deliver a total power of 600 horsepower and 492 lb-ft of torque, an improvement of 27 horsepower and 16 lb-ft.
To achieve such a gain, the injectors and intercooler were improved while the original turbochargers were replaced by those of the NSX GT3 EVO. If the electric motors were not affected, the battery capacity was increased by 20% and its output power by 10%. Finally, the nine-speed dual-clutch transmission was reworked to improve the speed of gear changes and add the ability to skip gears.
Styling wise, the NSX Type S has a larger front grille to improve cooling as well as five-spoke forged wheels – available in Shark Gray or Gloss Black – topped with Pirelli P-Zero tires that widen the track of the car. car. Several bodywork artifacts are made of carbon fiber, such as the front and side ground effects, the rear diffuser and the roof. For enhanced performance, all NSXs sold in Canada come standard with the optional US Lightweight Package, which includes carbon-ceramic brakes, carbon fiber engine cover and other lightweight accessories. The weight is then reduced by 26.2 kg (57.8 lb) in comparison with a version that would not be equipped with it.
Among the 10 color options, consumers can choose a matte gray named Matte Gotham Gray, New Blue Pearl, or Valencia Red Pearl, three optional colors at a cost of $ 7,300. Other colors are offered free of charge.
According to the manufacturer, all these improvements allow acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 307 km / h. The 350 NSX Type S are assembled by hand at the Performance Manufacturing Center (PMC). 300 units are destined for the United States and only 15 for Canada, at a base price of $ 224,795, including freight charges of $ 3,295.
In recent years, the Acura NSX has sold in confidential quantities. Only 23 NSXs were sold in Canada in 2020, one more unit than the 22 sold in 2019. In Quebec, five NSXs were sold in 2020, down from the six sold in 2019.
