The autonomy of the Cadillac LYRIQ with all-wheel drive confirmed quietly

While the manufacturer’s website claims that the autonomy of the Cadillac LYRIQ All-Wheel Drive (AWD) must be confirmed later, a simple visit to the Natural Resources Canada website allows you to have the right time. The government body recently posted the data for this version online, and the registry shows that the all-wheel-drive version has a range of 494 kilometers, a slim concession compared to the 502 kilometers of the rear-wheel-drive version.

This difference of only 8 kilometers is all the more surprising since the all-wheel-drive version is significantly more powerful than the rear-wheel-drive version. While the single-motor (rear-wheel drive) version offers 340 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque, the two-motor (all-wheel-drive) version spits out 500 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. These figures undoubtedly improve the performance of the vehicle, although no figures allow us for the moment to objectify the difference in this regard.

This minimal difference in terms of autonomy is explained by the almost identical consumption of the two versions of the Cadillac LYRIQ. According to Natural Resources Canada, for the two vehicles, consumption in the city is calculated at 21.4 kWh/100 km while on the road it would reach 25.8 kWh/100 km. The only difference is in the combined consumption, calculated at 23.1 kWh/100 km for the rear-wheel-drive version and 24.0 kWh/100 km for the all-wheel-drive version, which certainly has an impact on the homologated autonomy. .

Both vehicles are based on GM’s Ultium architecture, which means that the battery and the motor units come from this new way of doing things that the manufacturer is currently implementing. According to the data announced by Cadillac, the battery capacity is 102 kilowatt hours for both versions.

Where the rear-wheel drive version has an advantage is in terms of recharging. It can accept up to 19.2 kilowatts of charging power with a level 2 residential station, which adds 84 kilometers of range in one hour of charging. In the case of the all-wheel-drive version, the on-board charger is limited to 11.5 kilowatts of power, which limits the added range to 50 kilometers per hour of charging. However, both vehicles charge at the same speed when plugged into a Level 3 DC charging station. Autonomy can increase by 123 kilometers per 10 minutes of recharging due to the accepted power which caps at 190 kilowatts.

The starting price of the RWD version of the Cadillac LYRIQ in the Canadian market is $70,597. The price of the all-wheel-drive version has not yet been confirmed, even if the model that will initially be sold here will be one from the 2023 model year. The vehicle should arrive in dealerships shortly, according to the latest information released by the constructor.
