The competition is strong, and will be even more so in the future, for electric SUVs. Everyone is looking for a way to distance themselves from the competition in order to do well. Fisker highlights some unique features for its Ocean SUV like the 17.1-inch central screen which swivels 90 degrees, but can now advertise the homologated autonomy of the declination Extreme. Indeed, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced that this version was certified to offer 360 miles of autonomy, or the equivalent of 579 kilometers.
The Fisker Ocean thus surpasses, at least theoretically, the autonomy announced for various competing models offered on the market such as the Audi Q4 e-tron (380 km), the Audi Q8 e-tron (495 km), the BMW iX (521 km), Cadillac LYRIQ (505 km), Lexus RZ (354 km), Mercedes-Benz EQB (356 km), Tesla Model Y (531 km) and Tesla Model X (560 km).
Be aware, however, that this range of 579 kilometers only concerns the Extreme and One versions, the most expensive, which are both equipped with the larger capacity battery and 20-inch wheels. The addition of larger wheels will no doubt have an impact on the advertised autonomy, but these details are, for the time being, unknown. Note that these two versions are equipped with all-wheel drive and that it is possible to disconnect the rear motor to save energy.
We therefore find under the bodywork of these two versions a 113 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery, one of the largest in the entire category. The Sport version, advertised on the manufacturer’s Canadian site as the one that opens the range, will have a lower capacity battery, good for an estimated range of 402 kilometers, which remains to be certified by the EPA.
Long-awaited sales
The manufacturer announces that the first copies of the Fisker Ocean, the first vehicle of the new entity owned by Henrik Fisker, have been delivered to consumers in Denmark. However, it seems that the delivery of the first American copies will take place in the week of June 19 since the vehicle has received the necessary authorizations for sale.
As for the Canadian market, Fisker has not officially announced anything. Previous communications hinted at the start of delivery on our market in the summer of 2023, which seems less and less achievable given the few announcements made by the manufacturer at the dawn of the target date. Nevertheless, Canadian prices are advertised; the vehicle starts at $43,999 (without freight and delivery charges) and tops out at $89,999 for the Extreme and One versions discussed earlier in the text.
