The BMW i7 2023 freezes them in Sweden
Sign that the BMW i7 will arrive sooner rather than later, BMW is unveiling images of the sedan during its winter tests in Sweden.
The passage through extremely cold temperatures is an obligation for all cars before they are marketed. This is all the more important when it comes to an electric car whose batteries are particularly sensitive to low temperatures. Therefore, BMW performs these tests with its future large electric sedan based on the 7 Series, the i7 2023.

In the great cold
The goal behind these winter tests in Arjeplog, Sweden, 24 kilometers from the Arctic Circle, is to put the technical elements to the test. This is an opportunity for engineers to calibrate the (adaptive) suspensions according to their cold reflex. In the case of an electric automobile, special attention is paid to all the logistics of mechanical components such as battery temperature management to limit loss of range, engine reaction, recharging and so on. It is therefore a comprehensive job, but absolutely necessary for the marketing of the car in a climate like Canada. The i7 should be prepared for any eventuality.
Already consumption
The new i7 will be unveiled in the year 2022 as a 2023 model in the Canadian market. Even if, for now, the Bavarian manufacturer remains silent on the technical data, it confirms that it shares the fifth generation eDrive technology initially presented in the utility iX 2022. While we do not know the power, the battery size and range, BMW confirms the consumption ratings according to the (optimistic) WLTP assessment, from 22.5 to 19.5 kilowatt hours / 100 kilometers.
The conservative form
While other manufacturers are increasingly adopting unique shapes for their electric sedans, just think of Mercedes-Benz with the EQS or Lucid with the Air, at BMW, we remain very conservative with a notchback configuration. It looks like the approach taken for the i7 will be the same as for the i4. The car will therefore be neither more nor less than an electric version of the Series 7.
Traditional style
Aesthetically similar treatment can be expected, however. The radiator grille, which will also be of a very generous size, will be closed to promote aerodynamics. It is quite possible that the bumper will also be revised for the same reason. Electric or not, if we trust the polar images, the traditional Hoffmeister-type boost will be back, as will the horizontal character line that stretches the length of the body.
Open war against Mercedes-Benz
The 7th generation BMW 7 Series will be presented during the year 2022. It is not yet known whether the I7 will arrive before or after the combustion engine versions. With the i7, BMW joins its longtime rival, Mercedes-Benz, which is already present in the large electric sedan segment with the EQS.
