The Chrysler 300 turns 70 with a more powerful V8

Symbol of a resolutely American extravagance whose brilliance sprung less than before, the Chrysler 300 is at a crossroads. The big sedan, which has been evolving in the shadow of the Dodge Charger for several years, could be electrified. In order to mark its end of life in its current form scheduled for 2023, Chrysler has chosen to orchestrate a rather thunderous curtain drop.

For the 2023 model year, the sedan returns with the 300C designation. This serves both to emphasize its 70e anniversary and provide an excuse to implant a 6.4L V8 bolted into its long snout. The formula is known. The SRT version of the 2014 model year 300 had written the last page of this performance line with this same engine. So there is nothing innovative here.

With 485 hp and 475 lb-ft of torque, this 300 will be the most powerful ever offered. Like the Dodge Charger Scat Pack with which it shares most of its components, it receives the contribution of an eight-speed ZF transmission, adaptive damping and an active exhaust. More powerful and enduring braking is provided by large four-piston Brembo calipers at the front.

The Chrysler 300C will be a rather rare beast on our roads. The parent company Stellantis plans to offer only 200 copies, against 2000 for the American market. Its price has not yet been communicated.
