Genesis has already announced that it will only unveil electric vehicles from 2025, a deadline that is coming soon. This is undoubtedly what drives the manufacturer to launch, with great fanfare, several electric products, such as the GV60 or the electrified G80. The third will be GV70 electrified and according to the press release sent by Genesis, it will be offered in a single version on the Canadian market.
Prestige AWD is the name of this version which is, if we rely on the GV70 gasoline model, almost at the top of the range. Moreover, the on-board equipment including, among other things, ventilated and heated front seats covered in nappa leather, a 14.5-inch screen, the 360-degree camera do not leave much room for additions. Head-up display, 3D instrumentation and adaptive suspension with road reading are standard. Its price, all inclusive, will be $84,150.
To recognize an electrified Genesis GV70, you will have to focus on the grille, which is exclusive to this model, as well as the wheels. Also note the white brake calipers, which will match a choice of eight colors for the exterior.
At this price, the electrified Genesis GV70 comes with a 77.4 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery, a capacity similar to that of the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Genesis GV60. Just like in its companions, the battery has the capacity to be recharged at a power of 350 kilowatts, which allows a recharge from 10 to 80% in 18 minutes on a terminal corresponding to 800 volts. This battery powers a pair of identical electric motors, which deliver a combined output of 320 kilowatts (429 horsepower), which can be increased to 483 horsepower for 10 seconds with Boost mode. Torque reaches 516 lb-ft and the vehicle is all-wheel-drive.
A difficult comparison
On its website, Genesis is not very talkative about the autonomy of its electrified GV70. However, a search finds that it is homologated at 383 kilometers, a slight improvement over the 378 kilometers of the Genesis GV60 Performance with which the GV70 shares most of its components.
Nevertheless, when comparing the electrified Genesis GV70 with its main competitors, it seems at a disadvantage. For example, the Tesla Model Y is sold at $70,000 and offers a certified range of 531 kilometers, almost 150 km more. Same thing with the Audi Q4 e-tron which may be less powerful, but is significantly better priced at under $65,000, at least for the base version.
The electrified Genesis GV70 will go on sale next month in Canada.
