Over the past year, Chevrolet has announced two vehicles that have generated a great deal of interest among Quebec motorists: the Chevrolet Equinox EV and the Chevrolet Blazer EV. Although all the details of the two electric SUVs have not yet been revealed in full, some relevant information has just been communicated by GM concerning the Blazer EV. We now know the price of the different versions, and we have learned that the entry-level version has been dropped from the range.
Goodbye 1LT
The 2024 Blazer EV is a 5-passenger electric midsize SUV. The autonomy provided by the manufacturer varies between 400 to 515 kilometers depending on the version of the vehicle chosen. This statistic, coupled with a starting price estimated at $55,000 by Chevrolet, convinced many motorists to put themselves on a waiting list to obtain the SUV. According to GM, the enthusiasm is very important around the product.
Originally, the manufacturer announced 4 versions of the Blazer EV, namely the 1LT, the 2LT, the RS and the SS. Each more expensive and equipped than the other, the versions had a price estimated by GM between $55,000 (1LT) and $84,024 (SS).
Motorists looking for the less expensive version will be forced to look to the 2LT variant, as Chevrolet has confirmed that the 1LT edition will not go on sale. The manufacturer explained to the RPM team that this edition was withdrawn to lighten the range and because it was simply not chosen by buyers on the waiting list.
$8,000 more upfront
The disappearance of the 1LT edition automatically increases the base cost of the vehicle. Chevrolet estimated the Blazer EV would start at around $55,000. Verification done, the vehicle will now climb to $63,298, including freight and delivery charges. This means that the Blazer EV will still be eligible for government rebates totaling $13,000, but an increase of $8,000 compared to the initial price is to be expected.
The RS AWD version, the first to land on Quebec roads, will also experience significant inflation. GM’s estimate was around $64,000 for this version. In fact, the AWD model will retail for $73,298 including freight and delivery charges. The rear-wheel-drive RS edition is priced exactly the same. The difference between the two is the addition of a Bose-branded audio system and a more convincing range of 515 kilometers, according to Chevrolet. .An increase of almost $10,000, not to mention that, at that price, the vehicle will no longer qualify for the provincial government rebate of $7,000. The bill is therefore higher than expected.
Pricing for the grinds and versions with a different cog are still undisclosed by GM, with the company confirming they will be announced closer to their 2024 launch date.
Chevrolet dealerships will begin taking orders for the 2024 Blazer EV 2LT AWD and RS AWD in late summer 2023 when the first drivers will pick up their electric SUVs.
