It’s no secret that V8 engines are destined to disappear to make way for less polluting engines. Stellantis therefore decided to go for one last big blow by grafting its engine HEMI Hellcat to several of its vehicles. This is also the case of Dodge Durango which sees this mechanical offer extended for an additional year for the 2024 model year.
Power to spare
While we thought the days of some Hellcat-powered Stellantis Group vehicles were over, it seems that’s not quite the case. Indeed, a press release recently published on the American side informs us that the Dodge Durango will continue to offer this engine in 2024. The SRT Hellcat versions of the SUV are powered by a 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI Hellcat V8. The latter offers a power of 710 horsepower and a torque of 645 pound-feet.
All this power allows you to go from 0 to 96 kilometers/hour in 3.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 290 kilometers/hour, according to the manufacturer’s data. However, these high performance numbers demand an equally high starting price. In fact, an SRT Hellcat model of the 2023 Durango starts at $129,390, including freight and delivery charges. The price range for 2024 has not yet been revealed for the Canadian market.
Some minor new features for the 2024 Dodge Durango lineup
Besides the news that the Hellcat offer will continue for the 2024 Dodge Durango, some models in the lineup will get some changes. The Citadel version will now offer, like the R/T version, the Tow N Go package which ensures a towing capacity of 3,946 kilos (8,700 pounds).
In addition, the Durango becomes safer and offers improved driving aids. Firstly, the blind spot monitoring system is standard across the entire 2024 Dodge Durango range. Then, a new blind spot monitoring system with trailer detection function will also be included on models equipped with the specific towing package.
The SXT, GT, Citadel, R/T, SRT 392 and SRT Hellcat versions would still be in the catalog for 2024.
Currently, regarding the SRT Hellcat versions, the information disclosed concerns the American market. It’s a safe bet that this will also be transposed to the Canadian market, but we will have to wait for confirmation from Stellantis Canada.
