The latest Chevrolet Camaro has just left the factory

Times are changing in the automotive world. Last week, Stellantis saw its Chrysler 300 sedan pass the assembly line doors for one last time. This time, it’s the turn of Chevrolet to see its latest Camaro roll off the assembly lines, a few weeks ahead of the date initially planned.

The end of an era

For Chevrolet, the Camaro name is iconic. Seeing this sports coupe disappear means the end of an era. However, this isn’t the first time the American automaker has discontinued the Camaro, having done so in 2002 before bringing it back to the lineup in 2010.

According to what some American automotive media are reporting and which seems to have been confirmed by an American representative of the brand, the latest Chevrolet Camaro seems to have passed the assembly line at the Lansing, Michigan factory. Initially, the manufacturer announced that production would cease in January 2024. It therefore seems that this date has been brought forward. Still according to the information reported, the last Camaro to have been produced would be a ZL1 1LE equipped with a manual gearbox. Additionally, last November, Chevrolet built the latest supercharged V8 engine that took place under the hood of the Camaro ZL1. Besides this information, as of this writing, nothing else has surfaced.

An upcoming return?

While production of the Chevrolet Camaro has just ended in the configuration we know, some suggest that the name is not dead. Indeed, Chevrolet’s global vice president, Scott Bell, has already stated that an immediate successor is not planned, but that the Camaro’s story will not end there. He therefore suggests that Chevrolet has a plan for this historic name. It’s a safe bet that the Camaro name could return in an electric configuration, given the direction the American manufacturer seems to be taking.

Currently, Ford has just renewed its Mustang for a new generation still equipped with thermal engines only. On the Dodge side, the current generation Challenger is bowing out, before an upcoming return in electric configuration. We will therefore have to follow what Chevrolet prepares for us for the Camaro name over the coming years.
