The Volkswagen Golf R 20th Anniversary Edition is coming to Canada

The Volkswagen manufacturer likes to play the nostalgia card. After announcing the domestic availability of the Volkswagen Golf GTI 40e Anniversary and the offer of the Volkswagen Golf R 333 in Europe, the manufacturer announces that the Volkswagen Golf R edition 20e Anniversary 2023 will be released domestically.

Introduced in Germany in 2002, the car is known as the Golf R32 and celebrates the 20th anniversary of this all-wheel-drive, high-performance model. Its success prompted Volkswagen to offer it in North America from 2004.

Edition 20e Anniversary is based on the foundations of the most recent generation of the Golf R, uses Volkswagen’s MQB platform and receives the turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that develops 315 horsepower. All-wheel drive is standard, and the car benefits from a choice of a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic.

The car stands out visually with a few additions, including its 19-inch Estoril wheels which are finished in gloss black and shod with 235/35 high-performance summer tyres. A power panoramic sunroof is standard equipment on all 20 modelse Anniversary. Either way, courtesy lighting projects the 20 R logo onto the ground, while the ‘R’ badging – on the front and rear bumpers as well as the front fenders – are finished in blue.

Inside, the instrument panel and door trim feature real carbon fiber decor inlays, a first, as well as a blue finished “R” logo on the steering wheel.

Three colors, but only 500 copies

Edition 20e Anniversary will be offered in Lapiz Blue Metallic, Deep Black Pearl and Pure White, with a limited vehicle allocation for each color. Moreover, only 500 copies will be offered in the country. The Volkswagen Golf R edition 20e Anniversaire will be sold at a base price of $50,995 for the manual transmission and $52,395 with the DSG.
