Toyota introduces the 2022 4Runner TRD Sport

If there is one vehicle that undergoes slow evolution, it is the Toyota 4Runner. New model releases are infrequent, but Toyota injects a few changes into the 2022 lineup by introducing a new version, the Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport 2022, a model that enhances the style and performance of this mid-size SUV.

Officially, the Toyota 4Runner 2021 is sold in two versions: Trail ($ 48,559) and SR5 ($ 51,269). However, the SR5 version offers several packages including TRD Off-Road, Limited 7-seater, Venture, Nightshade 7-seater and TRD Pro.

The model TRD Sport 2022 In addition to the sets offered in the SR5 version, it is impossible to obtain a basic Trail version that would be equipped with it. Buyers will therefore have three choices of TRD packages for 2022: TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, and TRD Sport. What sets the latter apart? A bit of a paradox, because according to Toyota, instead of features designed to tackle the most demanding terrain, the 4Runner TRD Sport “adds style, panache and improvements designed for the road.” Simply put, it’s not more efficient off-road, but it does benefit from a sportier styling and offers slightly uplifted performance.

Under the hood, it gets the same 4.0-liter V6 engine that puts out 270 horsepower and produces 278 pound-feet of torque. Paired with a 5-speed automatic transmission, it can tow up to 2,273 kilos (5,000 pounds).

the Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport 2022 exclusively receives the Cross-Linked Relative Absorber System (X-REAS) suspension which automatically adjusts the damping force of the shocks when driving in bumpy terrain or in bends. A central control damper connects the dampers at opposite corners of the vehicle, forming an “X,” to help reduce pitch and improve handling.

The unique styling of the TRD Sport is reflected in color-matched grille accents. It also benefits from a larger air intake on the hood of the TRD type as well as a front spoiler and black roof rails.

Inside, the TRD Sport version replaces the cloth seats with seats upholstered in SofTex, in addition to offering heated front seats. The black SofTex-trimmed seats feature unique gray contrast stitching, and the front headrests feature gray-colored stitched TRD logos. TRD Sport floor mats are included, and a standard TRD shift knob completes the look of this trim.

With the arrival of the 2022 Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport, Toyota is trying to take advantage of buyers’ enthusiasm for sportier SUVs. The model will be offered later this year, the manufacturer did not disclose the price of the TRD Sport package.
