Toyota recalls 168,000 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid over fire hazard

The Japanese manufacturer Toyota has issued a press release in which it announces it is recalling approximately 168,000 full-size Tundra and Tundra hybrid pickup trucks due to an increased fire risk. The recall affects vehicles of model years 2022 and 2023.

According to what we can learn, the recalled pickup trucks are equipped with a plastic fuel tube that could move and come into contact with a brake line, which could cause a fuel leak, according to Toyota. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source could increase the risk of fire. At this time, no serious incidents have been reported due to the issue, this is a preventative measure.

Toyota said dealerships will eventually replace the fuel line with an upgraded part. Additional clamps will also be added at no cost to owners.

While waiting for the automaker to develop the new part, dealerships will install protective materials and add a hose clamp to the fuel line as a temporary measure.

Affected owners will be notified by early October. You can also visit https://www.toyota.ca/toyota/en/owners/recalls to determine if your vehicle is affected by the recall.

The Toyota Tundra is marketed in a new generation since last year. According to Transport Canada’s Motor Vehicle Safety Recalls Database, the recent generation of the Toyota Tundra was affected by 7 recall campaigns in Canada; the largest targeted just over 13,500 vehicles last March.
