2023 Toyota GR Corolla: a price comparable to the Honda Civic Type R

Toyota Canada has finally announced pricing for the highly anticipated GR Corolla which will enter dealerships nationwide this fall. The manufacturer seems to have done its homework because this racing Corolla has a price comparable to its direct competitor, the Honda Civic Type R.

When it lands, Canadian consumers will be able to own it for a whopping $47,380, including $1,890 freight and PDI. Three versions are offered: the base model Core, Circuit Edition ($55,880) and MORIZO ($61,880). These last two are however limited editions. The Circuit Edition will only go on sale for the 2023 model year, while the MORIZO will arrive next spring.

The GR Corolla will be the first very high-performance Corolla to be marketed here. Inspired by the GR Yaris sold in other markets, this racing Corolla is powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder engine. Its power is rated at 300 horsepower and its torque at 295 lb-ft.

But it doesn’t just stop at a powerful engine. Only a 6-speed manual transmission is offered, and the GR Corolla is equipped with a driver-adjustable GR Four all-wheel drive. This can distribute the torque as it sees fit according to a 60/40, 50/50 or 30/70 ratio.

Wider tracks, chassis reinforcements, suspension elements developed on the track and more efficient brakes are all part of the game. Toyota claims a sprint from 0 to 96 km/h in less than 5 seconds.

The Toyota GR Corolla arrives at the same time as the equally competitively priced Honda Civic Type R. Until it arrives at the dealership, RPM will try to get its hands on a press copy to give you its impressions.
